St Peter the Fisherman Anglican Church

A Parish of the Anglican Church of Southern Queensland

As you will have seen from our photos, our church is not your traditional church.

When the previous two centres came together as one worship centre (St Peter the Fisherman), the new church was to be built in a side street in Clontarf.  It was felt that the church needed to fit in with its surroundings; and so the church was built in the structure of a Queenslander.  Hence the uniqueness of our church.  Despite the church’s outside appearance, it was never a Queenslander converted into a church, but was built purposefully that way.

Our Services

Our worship services are traditional Anglican.

We use A Prayer Book For Australia alongside various other traditional observances throughout the year according to the church calendar.

On Sunday and other major observances, the service is projected on the east wall and held in the main body of the church.

During the week, the services are read from the prayer book and held in the side chapel.

Our History

Up until 1979 there was only one Anglican Parish on the Redcliffe Peninsula, The Parish of Redcliffe.  The Parish at the time had 4 centres. Two centres north of MacDonnell Road; at Redcliffe and Scarborough, and two centres south of MacDonnell Road; St. Mark’s at Woody Point and St. Barnabas at Clontarf.

In 1977 it was decided to divide the Parish into two. The northern side of MacDonnell would retain the name The Parish of Redcliffe,  the southern side of MacDonnell Road would become known as The Parish of Bramble Bay, taking the name of the bay at Woody Point.

In 1991, the congregations of the two centres of St. Mark’s Woody Point and St. Barnabas Clontarf,  took up the offer by Miss Lillian Isles to use her property facing Hill Parade to build a One Worship Centre.  The new church to be built was to be built in the style of a Queenslander so as to fit in with the surroundings of the neighbourhood. The name of the new Parish would be known as The Anglican Parish of St. Peter The Fisherman, Bramble Bay

On the 2nd of July in 1993, St Peter The Fisherman Church was dedicated.  On 30th June in 1996 the parish church was consecrated.  Both occasions were led by Archbishop Hollingworth, Archbishop of Brisbane at the time.
