24 April 2022: Easter II: Second Sunday of Easter / A.N.Z.A.C. Day

Jesus said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe’.
— John 20:27

Collect: Living God, for whom no door is closed, no heart is locked: draw us beyond our doubts, till we see your Christ and touch his wounds where they bleed in others.  This we ask through Christ our Saviour, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

A Prayer for ANZAC DAY

O God, our ruler and guide, in whose hands are the destinies of this and every nation, we give you thanks for the freedoms we enjoy in this land and for those who laid down their lives to defend them: we pray that we and all the people of Australia, gratefully remembering their courage and their sacrifice, may have the grace to live in a spirit of justice, of generosity, and of peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen

A Prayer for Ukraine

God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear, that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.  Amen

Archbishop Justin Welby: Archbishop of Canterbury
Archbishop Stephen Cottrell: Archbishop of York.

We pray for relief of suffering of innocent victims in countries troubled by conflict and unrest.  We continue to pray for the unrest between Ukraine and Russia.  For those who are innocent victims of others hunger for power and greed.  For those who have fled their homeland, and now have no place to call home.  We give thanks for the citizens of neighbouring countries of Ukraine who are assisting those who are fleeing.

Our Country:  we pray for A.N.Z.A.C. commemorations to take place around Australia tomorrow, from the biggest cities to the smallest communities, as well as Gallipoli .  As we come together as a nation we remember and give thanks for those who laid down their lives for us so we might live a life of freedom.

World Wide Anglican Community:  we pray for your Church in the Ukraine.  For the priests of your church who have stayed in Ukraine to continue to care, both spirituality and pastorally; for your people; and continue to minster the Sacraments and to support those who are unable to leave.  We pray for those priests who have been killed in the Ukraine while undertaking their priestly ministries.

The Anglican Church of Australia: we pray for all Defence Chaplains within the  Defence Force.  For those who are full time chaplains and for those who are part-time.  For those who will be partaking in, or conducting, A.N.Z.A.C. Services here in Australia, or on foreign soil.

Those Mourning: For those who mourn the death of a loved one at this time.  For those who at this time of A.N.Z.A.C commemorations find it a difficult time to bear due to the loss of loved ones in war; be they family or friends,  or fellow service personnel.

Departed: For those who have lost their lives in all wars.  For those from this community, and for those from this parish, who are no longer remembered by name, but paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
