26 February 2023: Lent I

We do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.
— Matthew 4:4

COLLECT: Almighty God, whose Son fasted forty days in the wilderness, and was tempted as we are, yet did not sin: give us grace to direct our lives in obedience to your will, that, as you know our weakness, so we may know your power to save; through Jesus Christ our Redeemer, who lives and reigns with you and   the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

A Prayer for Ukraine

God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear, that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.  Amen

Archbishop Justin Welby: Archbishop of Canterbury
Archbishop Stephen Cottrell: Archbishop of York.

Prayers For The World And The Church

For The World:  We pray for a right spirit of peace and cooperation to overcome the spirit of hatred, bitterness, and division in all countries. We pray for relief of suffering of innocent victims in countries troubled by conflict and unrest.  For those nations continued to be affected by aftershocks and more earthquakes: for the peoples of Turkey, Syria, and surrounding areas.  We pray for those people of other nations who are deployed to assist with recovery operations and nations that are providing support of any description.  We also pray for north island of New Zealand as it copes with the unprecedented of and catastrophic flooding and for the south island of New Zealand as it copes with the earthquake.

(We continue to pray for the unrest between Ukraine and Russia.)

Our Country: We continue to pray for Turkish and Syrian communities throughout Australia as families continue to wait for news of relatives in those earthquake devastated countries.  We pray for the inland regions of our state and nation as they receive welcoming rains, but also mindful of those parts of our state and nation that continue to fight bushfires.

World Wide Anglican Community: The Scottish Episcopal Church in Scotland: for their Primus, bishops, clergy and people.

The Anglican Church of Australia: For the Diocese of Wangaratta: Clarence Bester - Bishop; clergy and people.

Schools: We pray for all teachers and students within the State School Education Department.

Defence Force Anglicans: We pray for vocations to full-time and part-time chaplaincy service in the Australian Defence Force: for the Defence Chaplaincy Leadership Team as they seek to discern the call of those who feel they are being called to Defence Chaplaincy.

Our Parish: As we commence this season of Lent, let us by self-examination and repentance, by prayer and  fasting, by self denial and acts of generosity, and by reading and meditating on the word of God, let us keep a Holy Lent.

Our Community: We pray for all the state schools on the Peninsula: both primary and high schools.  For all principals, administration teams, teachers, students and their families.
