Collect of the week

Almighty and everlasting God,

give to us the increase of faith, hope and love;

and, that we may obtain what you promise,

make us to love what you command;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Safeguarding: We are committed to the safeguarding and care of everyone within our community. You can contact the Office of Safe Ministry for the Anglican Church Southern Queensland by calling 1800 242 544 or emailing safeministry@anglicanchurchsq.org.au

Mission and Outreach

Woody Point Special School has been discerned as a focus for our new season of mission and outreach. The yellow lid bins at the back of the church are waiting for your extra groceries to donate to their pantry. Meals which are labelled with date and ingredients, packaged and frozen can be put in the church freezer for collection. For more information, contact Elizabeth on 0404 080 861, or Leisa.

BCA Boxes are due: please leave them on the back table, or hand to Elizabeth.

Spirited Generosity is an ongoing initiative in our parish. Please check the back table for information on our next steps. If anything has been raised in your spirit as a result, please continue the conversation with fellow parishioners, parish councillors, wardens, and Fr Ted.

We ask of your goodness, Lord, to comfort and sustain all who in this transitory life are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity, and especially Shirley and Alan Kimber, Rosina, Ann, Barbara, Ian, Chris, Jeff Byrne, Karne, Greg, Aaron, Joanne, Grace and Faith, Fr David, Nina, Sophie, Lesley, Helena, Claire, Wayne, Janice, Carol, Shakiraia, Kristy, Martina, John, Fran, Lois, and Beryl Old. We also give thanks for those whose year’s mind occurs at this time, and among them Jean Peacock and Len Symons. Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon them.

A Plug For Bible Study

Have you considered coming along to one of the Bible Study groups in your church? All the materials are supplied – a copy of the study, a Bible to read from, and a comfy seat. Why not come along this week?

All Saints/All Souls

We will be making a special observance of All Saints/All Souls at the 8am service on Sunday, November 1. Indeed, this is not only for inviting a friend, but for all of us. We have all been touched by the tragedy of the death of a loved one. On this Sunday there will be a particular emphasis on the communion of saints, a belief we confess in our Creeds. At the Holy Eucharist there is a sense of the mystery that we share a meal not only with God, and with the saints beside us in the pews, but also with the saints in heaven who have gone before us. There will be the opportunity to renew our trust in God, and that he is holding our loved ones in his loving arms. Perhaps you know of someone who might need a sacred moment to hold them in their grief – consider offering them a personal invitation to this service.

Dearly Departed

During the service there will be an interactive prayer activity to commemorate the dearly departed. If you have any names you would like included, please come a bit early to the service and write them on the Dearly Departed Cards, which will be provided on the day. Alternatively, you can provide the names to Fr Ted beforehand, and cards with the names will be included on the day for you. Please note, however, that this will be a very special moment, and if you are able to come on the day, please do.

 Morning Tea Update

Our parish initiative of Spirited Generosity is already bearing fruit – fruit cake, that is. You may have noticed over the past several weeks that our faithful workers behind the counter brewing your cuppa have been reinforced by some faithful bakers to make Morning Tea even better.

The Ladies Guild is famed throughout the wider parish for their sumptuous catering – and now they are putting the call out to the troops to join in the fun.

There is no reason why we cannot have the best Morning Tea in the diocese – all it takes is your humble self, bringing a special treat to church once every so often to share after the service.

Pre Melbourne Cup Party

The popular annual function is on again, and bookings are now open. Same price $20, at the church on Saturday 31 October. Book a table for 8 or as many tickets as you like. Please see Gail, Dale or Liz for bookings. No need to pay on booking. Brochures are available on cupboards at back of church. Please take them for your friends.

Help needed!

If anyone has two or three tier cakes stand that could be used on the day we would be very grateful.

Friday, 30 October 2.00 pm assistance needed to move furniture and set up tables for Saturday.

Saturday 31 October 12.00 help to set up marquees. 12.30  kitchen and other helpers; 4.00 help to dismantle marquees and put church back to rights for Sunday 1 November All Saints and All Souls Service.

Christmas Market Stall

The annual Bunnings Christmas Market Stall is on again this year, Thursday 3 December 5:30-7:30pm. Do consider what homemade fares and craft you might contribute to help this important moment in the life of your parish.

2027 Calendar and Lectionary Orders

Orders are now being taken for 2027 Anglican Church calendars. Each month showcases an Anglican church from somewhere in Australia with a beautiful photo.

Orders are also being taken for Lectionaries for next year. Have you planned your Bible reading for next year? Why not read along with the Church? The Lectionary contains all the information you need to read the whole Bible cover-to-cover every three years in a structured manner and is used by Anglican, Roman Catholic, and several other denominations. Our Anglican version is chock full of helpful information, including readings for Morning and Evening Prayer, Holy Communion, and special Feasts and Festivals, and all the important dates, like Christmas, Easter, and Quinquagesima.

We intend on placing a bulk order before the end of the year. If you would like to order yours along with us, please see one of the Wardens or Fr Ted – there is an order sheet in the church.

 Prayer Note – Grant Submission

After a time of discernment and prayer in the Parish Council, it has been decided to proceed with applying for a grant for solar panels for the church roof. While our Anglicare tenants are currently paying for the power bill as part of the lease agreement, rooftop solar panels would open the potential for more to be done with our church facilities. The application has now been submitted. Parish Council is asking for your prayers that the Lord’s will would be done, that if he does wish for us to expand in this direction, that the process would be led to a successful resolution for our parish. Thank you for your ongoing prayers for our parish council as they do the immensely responsible work of stewarding Christ’s own body in this place.

Prayer Space with Leisa

Radiating Christ — A Prayer Loved by Mother Teresa

This week, I would like to share Radiating Christ, one of Mother Teresa's favourite prayers, which she prayed daily after Holy Communion. Originally inspired by the writings of John Henry Newman, it asks Jesus to shine through us so that others may experience his love through our kindness, compassion and everyday actions.

Dear Jesus,

Help me to spread Your fragrance everywhere I go.

Flood my soul with Your Spirit and Life.

Penetrate and possess my whole being

So utterly that my life may only be

A radiance of Yours.

Shine through me and be so in me

That every soul I come in contact with

May feel Your presence in my soul.

Let them look up,

And see no longer me, but only Jesus!

Stay with me and then I will begin

To shine as You shine,

So to shine as to be a light to others.

The light, O Jesus, will be all from You;

None of it will be mine.

It will be You, shining on others through me.

Let me thus praise You

In the way You love best,

By shining on those around me.

Let me preach You without preaching,

Not by words but by example,

By the catching force,

The sympathetic influence of what I do,

The evident fullness of the love

My hear bears for You.

Amen.

Beyond The Pew

Faith. Life. Questions. Conversation.

Beyond The Pew is the beginning of a new parish ministry seeking your prayers and engagement. Beyond the Pew is a relaxed space for conversation about faith and life. Each gathering begins with one question. There are no prepared answers and no pressure to speak — just an opportunity to listen, share, pray and discover something from one another.

You may like to try this out with your church friends. Just ask the question, and see where the conversation goes!

Last week’s question: Is fate a real thing? What is it about your life experience that convinces you of that?

This week’s question:  Please wait, God is working. Why is it difficult to trust God’s timing?
